Shri Ratish Tagde

Ratish belongs to the assemblage of young and promising musicians in the field of Indian Classical music whose performance has made make an distinct impact in the hearts of Indian classical music aficionado. The rhythm of Ratish’s musical life began very early in life and that too with perhaps the most vibrant Indian rhythmic instrument of them all, the ‘Tabla’. Ratish says “I still remember sitting on my father’s lap, as he taught me the rhythm that still reverberates in my heart, mind and soul, and all I need to do is close my eyes and be just with … Dha-Dhin-Dhin-Dha..…

Having made music his life, he decided to probe the academic side of it and completed the Bachelor of Music (B. Mus.) examination in Tabla, a two years Post Graduate course Sangeet Kovid from the Khairagharha Sangeet Vishvavidhylay, the largest Indian Music University in Asia. Thirst for knowledge led him to a second postgraduate course titled ‘Sangeet Praveen’, offered by the most prestigious and the oldest Institution in Indian Classical Music in India called the Prayag Sangeet Sameetee, Allahabad. Not having yet satisfied the craving, I undertook a Masters degree with specialization in Violin, at the Devi Ahilya Vishvidyalays, Indore, where; by the grace of God, I secured the first position in the merit list and a Gold Medal.

Ratish belongs to a family of Music worshipers where music, especially Indian Classical music literally runs in the blood. He has been fortunate to receive a different and unique kind of training in violin from his guru, my father Shri S.V. Tagde, a vocalist, and who mastered his art under the tutelage of his father Pt. Vishwanath Tagde from Gwalior Ghaarana. His father is a vocalist and while practicing, would always ask Ratish to follow on violin, which helped Ratish to understand the nuances of Indian Classical Music and even today, Ratish just need to take his Violin in his hand for it to start singing. Later, Dr. Ramesh Tagde, who is a disciple of the legendry Violinist, late Pt. V. G. Jog, commenced imparting training to Ratish. Ratish is greatly inspired to the Violin playing genius of Dr. M. S. Gopalakrishnan and Dr. N. Rajam and he has no hesitancy in mentioning their violin playing styles have influenced his musical mind and playing style to a great extent.
